Job Summary

The Retirement Plan Associate plays a critical role within the Retirement Plan Services (RPS) division, supporting and advising corporate retirement plans through fiduciary governance, investment oversight, participant engagement, and regulatory compliance. This role serves as a key client-facing advisor and internal subject matter expert, partnering closely with Retirement Plan Principals, Wealth Advisors, and external service providers. In addition to overseeing plan reporting and administration, this position contributes to business development, client retention, advisor training, and strategic initiatives that enhance the firm’s retirement plan advisory offering. The role requires advanced knowledge of 401(k) plan design, ERISA fiduciary standards, investment monitoring, and participant education.

Pay Range: $61,420 - $81,894 - $92,954

Job Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

Relationship Management

  • Serve as a point of contact for retirement plan clients, plan sponsors, and committees, providing ongoing fiduciary and operational guidance.
  • Participate in and, where appropriate, lead plan review meetings, investment committee meetings, and client presentations alongside senior advisors.
  • Assist clients with plan design analysis, fiduciary best practices, fee benchmarking, and governance documentation.
  • Support client retention efforts by proactively identifying plan improvements and emerging regulatory or market considerations.
  • Retirement Plan Reporting & Investment Oversight
  • Oversee preparation, analysis, and delivery of quarterly and annual plan reporting, including:
    • Investment scorecards
    • Performance and Return Analysis
    • Style box and asset allocation analysis
    • QDIA and target-date fund evaluations
    • Fund lineup changes and monitoring
    • Conduct benchmarking studies for investment fees, recordkeeping costs, and plan services using industry databases.
    • Interpret data and prepare advisor-ready and client-facing summaries that translate technical analysis into actionable insights.

Regulatory, Fiduciary & Compliance Support

  • Maintain strong working knowledge of ERISA, DOL regulations, and fiduciary standards applicable to defined contribution plans.
  • Assist in documenting fiduciary processes, investment policy statements, and committee best practices.
  • Ensure adherence to internal compliance policies and participate in required regulatory and risk-management training.
  • Support audits, RFPs, and due diligence reviews of recordkeepers and plan vendors.
  • Participant Education & Engagement (25% of the time)
  • Coordinate and participate in participant education meetings, webinars, and enrollment support.
  • Assist with development and delivery of participant-facing materials related to plan features, investments, and retirement readiness.
  • Analyze participant behavior and outcomes to recommend engagement strategies that improve plan utilization.

Business Development & Growth Initiatives

  • Support the RPS team in new business development, including proposal preparation, finalist presentations, and prospect analysis.
  • Participate in advisor and internal training related to retirement plan services, investment solutions, and regulatory updates.
  • Act as a subject matter resource to wealth advisors seeking to introduce or expand retirement plan relationships.
  • Contribute ideas and feedback to improve the firm’s retirement plan advisory platform and service model.

Systems, Data & Operational Leadership

  • Maintain oversight of CRM and internal systems to ensure accurate client, plan, and service provider data.
  • Coordinate with recordkeepers, TPAs, and custodians to obtain plan data, resolve issues, and ensure service standards are met.
  • Mentor junior staff or support personnel and assist in developing scalable processes and workflows.
  • Lead or participate in special projects related to technology enhancements, service improvements, or regulatory initiatives.

  • Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance trainings. Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education level required: Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent)
  • Minimum experience required: 4 Years supporting or advising retirement plans, institutional clients, or investment advisory teams
  • Demonstrated knowledge of 401(k) plans, investment reporting, and fiduciary concepts
  • Strong analytical, presentation, and client communication skills
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a bank, RIA, or institutional wealth management environment
  • Familiarity with ERISA, plan benchmarking tools, and recordkeeping platforms
  • Professional designations or progress toward credentials such as AIF®, CPFA®, CFP®, or similar
  • Experience training advisors, clients, or internal teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education level preferred: Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent)
  • Fifteen plus years of work experience in Private Banking or Financial Services
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Series 7/Series 65/66 Preferred or ability to get in 6 months
  • Proven sales success and strong business acumen
  • Strong community presence with an established network
  • Experience or demonstrated understanding of investments, wealth planning, credit and banking concepts.
  • Focuses on the client’s experience and works tirelessly on the client’s behalf
